Volume 2 Prompt 7

The heat is on.
It is heating up.
The heat is killing me.

Heat is a very diverse word, one that carries multiple meanings. And with summer revving its engine in the Northern Hemisphere, it seems like a good time to include the word in our stories for this week.

Note that the deadline for this week is Friday rather than Thursday.

Now get writing.

Volume 2 Prompt 1

This year, the American confectionery company Necco went bankrupt and the classic Valentine’s candy Sweethearts went down with them. After 116 years of manufacturing sugary conversation starters, people will have to rely on their own wits to express their adoration.

For this week’s prompt, I want you to select a Sweethearts’ message and use it. The message should also double as the title. There are many lists of messages available such as this one or this one. And, as usual, 500 words, due 2/14 by 8 pm est via Green Submissions (as a PDF please).

Feel free to write me with any questions or concerns: mercurialstories@gmail.com.

Volume 1 Prompt 30

untitled (7)

What was that?
Just there out of the corner of your eye? Was it the girl you have a crush on, looking your way? Was it your husband, checking illicit text messages? Was there something there in the shadows, waiting for you to pass? Your partner checking his gun before getting out of the patrol car to investigate a strange man, laying on the sidewalk? A moth fluttering around a streetlamp?

This week, dear readers, I want you to look at what you cannot see directly. Explore your character’s peripheral vision, what is possible to discern and how they infer that sideways information.

As always, 500 words or less due by Thursday at 8 pm EST.

Week 18: Prompt: Starting Over

Hi there.

Did you miss me? I know a few of you did and I do appreciate the messages of concern, truly. I am sorry I did not leave a note telling you about my extended absence but at the time it was a bit impossible (technical issues). All is fine now so we can press along.

This week’s prompt, appropriately enough, is STARTING OVER.

Remember the rules?

500 words or less. Due Thursday by 8 pm EST. Submit to mercurialstories@gmail.com.

I look forward to seeing what you come up with.

No. 8: Prompt

Hello there and welcome to week 8.
Hopefully it will go better than week 7, for me at least.

This week’s prompt is: parallel lives.

Do what you will with it. I look forward to seeing the results by Thursday 8 pm EST.
Submit to mercurialstories@gmail.com.

Check in tomorrow for the updated playlist, though this week’s will be a little tougher to put together as I don’t know that many songs related to parallel lives. Regardless, there will be a playlist.

Get writing my dears.

(No. 7) Delay

A bit of a delay as I grapple with an exceptionally rough work week. There will be at least two stories this week and at least one of them will be awesome. Thanks for your patience. Take care.
